Panasonic Europe launches Eluga smartphone, ultra slim phone, waterproof and dust, based on Android and containing NFC technology. The company intends to market this model in 1.5 million copies in the next 12 months only in Europe.

  Plans to launch the smartphone has been revealed by Laurent Abadie, CEO of Panasonic Europe, at the company's annual conference held in Hamburg. Abadie adding that he would reach the 1.5 million phones sold in Europe in the next fiscal year (April 1, 2012 - March 31, 2013), as part of the recently declared objectives, namely increasing global mobile phone division to a volume of 15 million units sold before March 31, 2016.

  The 4.3-inch 960x540-pixel resolution OLED display is a particular highlight. It has impressive enough viewing angles, the touch response is good and the skin that Panasonic has put on Android is simple but very smart to look at.

  Inside is a dual-core 1GHz OMAP 4430 processor which kept the handset ticking along quickly but things weren't quite the speed levels of say the Galaxy S II or Motorola RAZR.

As demand for mobile phones - particularly smartphones - continued to grow and mature on the European market, we believe that is required a series of models that combine excellence in design, engineering and advanced technologies that improve lifestyle consumers,"says Abadie.

  "The power of our global brand and the ability to provide to very active consumers equipment which  can connect complete their activities from daily life, give us the right to be fully confident that the recovery in the European mobile market will be a huge success," adds Toshiya Matsumura General Manager, Head of Mobile Communications, Panasonic Communications System Europe.
